A 20-month-old patient was taken to the emergency room at Binh Lieu Medical Center (Quang Ninh) by his family in a state of suspected chemical poisoning after mistakenly swallowing a weed killer pill.
Immediately after discovering the incident, the family quickly took the child to the medical center. Thanks to active and timely treatment, the patient's health has stabilized and continues to be monitored at the Department of Surgery - Anesthesia, Resuscitation - Anti-Poison.
The incident is a warning about the potential dangers of chemicals in everyday life. Herbicide pellets are often brightly colored, making them easy for children to mistake for candy or supplements. When swallowed, the active ingredients in the drug can cause serious damage to the liver, kidneys, nervous system and lungs. More dangerously, many herbicides do not have specific antidotes, and treatment is only supportive, so early detection and proper treatment are crucial to a child's survival.
