Styes are caused by clogged and infected oil glands in the eyelids. Although styes are not contagious in most cases, experts still recommend washing your hands frequently to prevent the spread of bacteria when you touch your eyes and then touch objects, according to the US health website Healthline .

Styes will heal quickly and reduce pain if the sufferer applies warm compresses regularly.

Because it causes discomfort, people with styes often want to get rid of the condition as soon as possible, especially since the condition can last up to 2 weeks.

When you have a medical condition, it is best to see a doctor. This is also true for styes. However, you can also speed up the recovery process with some home remedies.

To quickly heal a stye, one of the most effective methods is to apply a warm compress. Patients can apply a warm compress using a towel wrung out after soaking it in warm water or a hot compress bag with warm water inside.

However, before applying a warm compress, you need to wash your hands thoroughly and clean the dirt and mucus from the stye. The minimum time for applying a warm compress is 10 minutes. After applying the compress, use your fingers to gently rub the stye in a circular motion. This will help massage the oil glands and reduce pain.

Although warm compresses are considered the best home remedy for styes, they should be applied 2-4 times a day for several days to be effective. Otherwise, the stye will continue to cause pain and inflammation.

If symptoms persist after two days of regular warm compresses, see your doctor, especially if the inflammation begins to spread to other areas around the eyelid. Your doctor will prescribe an antibiotic ointment to apply to the stye for about 10 days.

However, if topical medications are not effective and the stye begins to affect vision, your doctor may attempt to drain the pus from the stye. This procedure should be performed by an ophthalmologist.

One thing you absolutely must not do is squeeze the stye yourself. This action can cause further damage to the eyelid and cause the infection to spread, according to Healthline .
