Canada on September 25 released images of a UFO shot down by a US F-22 stealth fighter in collaboration with the Canadian Forces last year. The Canadian Ministry of National Defense said it delayed releasing the photo because of concerns that questions and confusion would arise surrounding the incident.

“Even if the image were shared on social media with a clear caption, it would likely cause a wave of questions from both the public and the media,” said Taylor Paxton, a public affairs officer with the Canadian Department of National Defence.

According to official Paxton, this object was determined to be "benign" and not harmful to people.

According to the Daily Star , the grainy photo shows a round white object with fuzzy edges, which was captured by a US Air Force F-22 stealth fighter during a joint mission with the Canadian Armed Forces. Canadian Brigadier General Eric Laforest described it as a cylindrical object, with a metallic top, a white bottom, and a 6m long wire along with what appeared to be a package hanging from it.

The mysterious UFO, described as a “small metallic balloon with a payload attached,” was among three reported sightings in Canada. Between February 10 and 12, three objects were spotted floating in North America before crashing in Alaska, Yukon and Lake Huron.

Could the Chinese balloon have tried to evade detection by the US?

The New York Post quoted US President Joe Biden confirming that three mysterious objects were shot down, and asserted that they were not surveillance vehicles of any other country.

A search for debris from all three objects was launched, but both Canadian and US police called off the search a few days later due to poor weather conditions.

Speaking to CTV News, Iain Boyd, an aerospace engineering professor at the University of Colorado (USA), said that the Canadian government delayed releasing the images of the incident due to national security concerns. Releasing the photos would fuel conspiracy theories and expose the North American country's defense weaknesses, according to Boyd.
