CEO Tim Cook believes iPhone with AI was created to 'save humanity'

In a recent statement, Mr. Tim Cook believes that the iPhone with AI (artificial intelligence) can help users reduce the time they spend on their phones. According to him, through a partnership with OpenAI, Apple Intelligence and Siri now have improved language and text understanding as well as improved Photos app to help sort photos into different categories. These are tasks that require users to spend more time than before. In addition, some functions have been added to the iPhone to increase consumers' awareness of the amount of time they spend on their phones.

All of this helps people look less at their phones and pay more attention to the people around them. CEO Tim Cook once said: "Every time you pick up your phone, you're not paying attention to the person you're interacting with, whether they're doing something right or wrong." He shared that he sometimes closes app notifications to avoid being bothered by pop-up notification messages. He explained this by saying that receiving notifications "doesn't add value to my life or make me a better person."

A 2024 survey found that people spend an average of 3 hours and 15 minutes on their mobile phones every day. Of the 53 countries surveyed, Filipinos spent the most time on their mobile phones, with an average of 5 hours and 20 minutes per day. The Japanese had the shortest time, spending just under 2 hours per day. Average phone usage was higher on weekdays than on weekends.

On average, a 12-year-old will get their first mobile phone. According to the survey, more than 50% of people go on social media because they are bored.

Ultimately, Cook asserted that Apple has never had an incentive to get people to spend their entire lives on the iPhone. However, as phones become more convenient, such as the integration of AI into the iPhone, people will spend more time on it and rely more on the convenience of the phone.
