Vietnamese disabled chess team wins 4 medals at world tournament

The Vietnamese disabled chess team won 4 medals, including 1 gold medal, 1 silver medal, and 2 bronze medals at the 2025 International Disabled Chess Championship (IPCA), which ended in India on July 31.

In the final event of the tournament, the standard chess event, Hanoi player Tran Thi Bich Thuy continued her impressive performance at the tournament when she won the Silver Medal in the Women's Wheelchair event with 4.5 points. Meanwhile, another Vietnamese player, also from the Hanoi team, Doan Thu Huyen, ranked 4th in the Women's Mobility Disability event.

Previously, in the blitz chess event, player Tran Thi Bich Thuy excellently won the gold medal in the women's wheelchair event. Meanwhile, Doan Thu Huyen won the bronze medal in the women with mobility disabilities event.

In the rapid chess event, player Tran Thi Bich Thuy won another bronze medal in the women's wheelchair event.

Thus, at the end of the tournament, the Vietnamese team with two players Doan Thu Huyen and Tran Thi Bich Thuy, both from Hanoi, won 4 medals including 1 gold medal, 1 silver medal, and 2 bronze medals. Of which, player Tran Thi Bich Thuy won 1 gold medal, 1 silver medal, and 1 bronze medal.

The tournament brought together 97 players from 18 countries, competing in 3 categories: Standard Chess, Rapid Chess and Blitz Chess, with a total prize value of 15,000 USD. The Standard Chess category alone has a total prize value of 10,000 USD.

Head coach of the Vietnam disabled chess team Bui Quang Vu assessed that the achievements of the Vietnamese players in rapid chess, blitz chess, and standard chess were in line with the expectations of the coaching board. Through this tournament, the coaching board will make adjustments to help the players achieve better results in upcoming international tournaments.
