Mobile technology company Morse Micro has just set a new Wi-Fi record with its HaLow processor capable of transmitting up to 15.9 km.

This Wi-Fi technology is expected to replace short-range mobile waves, after test results surpassed the previous record also conducted by the same company.

In January 2024, Morse Micro tested at San Francisco Beach, showing connection speeds ranging from 11Mbps at a distance of 500 meters, to 1Mbps at a maximum distance of 2.9 kilometers.

Meanwhile, in the latest test at Joshua Tree National Park, California (USA), Morse Micro achieved an average speed of 2 Mbps at a distance of up to 15.9 km.

According to Morse Micro's representative, with a distance of 15.9 km, HaLow is capable of transmitting data the farthest among existing Wi-Fi standards. With this ability, the technology can be applied in the agricultural sector, communicating at short distances, without having to rely on expensive mobile data as well as depending on the strong or weak mobile signal of each area. In urban areas, this technology may not be necessary due to the dense Wi-Fi network and mobile signal towers.

Experts say HaLow technology is “hard to beat in the near future” and will likely not stop at 15.9 km.

Morse Micro is a mobile technology company based in Sydney (Australia), founded in 2016, specializing in developing chips and Wi-Fi solutions. Although not the only name in the industry, the company's microprocessors are highly appreciated for their compact size, high data transmission speed, long range as well as low power consumption.
