ANTD.VN - The price of peach and kumquat trees this year is much higher than last year, but their appearance is worse.

Đào Tết không phong phú

Peach blossoms are not abundant for Tet.

On Duong Dinh Nghe and Nguyen Chanh streets, peach blossoms, kumquat trees, and ornamental flowers are sold after the full moon of December. Compared to previous years, the time of sale is also significantly later.

Ms. Hoa (who sells peach blossoms at the beginning of Nguyen Chanh Street) said: "Even though we open late, there are still few customers. Some days there are only about ten customers looking at the flowers, and even fewer customers buying."

Ms. Hoa's sales area on Nguyen Chanh Street has only about 20 peach trees, traditional in shape and design. Each tree costs from 4 million VND. The seller said that peach prices have increased significantly this year due to a scarcer supply. Many peach growing areas were severely affected by Typhoon Yagi in early September 2024.

According to Mr. Truong (selling peach blossoms on Ton That Thuyet street), this year he imported wild peach blossoms from Lang Son . “The peach blossoms are not as old as the peach blossoms from the Northwest, but the transportation cost from the Northwest is too high, and the market seems to be quiet, so I choose moderate products. Since the full moon of the twelfth lunar month until now, there have been no buyers. Only since the day before Ong Cong Ong Tao have there been a few buyers,” said Mr. Truong.

Similar to garden peaches, wild peaches have also increased in price this year. A large branch about 10cm wide and nearly 3m high costs about 3 million VND, about 500,000 VND/branch higher than last year.

Many sellers said that although the peach trees/branches this year are not in excellent shape, the flowers will bloom beautifully in time for Tet due to the warm weather.

Similarly, kumquat bonsai prices have also increased this year. Kumquat pots are about 2m high and 80cm in diameter, and cost about 2 million VND. Small kumquat pots for tables, less than 50cm high, also cost about 200,000 VND.

On To Huu street, small kumquat trees are more popular than big ones. Small kumquat trees cost from 200-250 thousand VND/pot.

It is noted that this year's kumquat trees and fruits are small, there are few new designs, customers do not have as many choices as previous years.

On streets like Giang Vo and Duong Dinh Nghe, there are not many pots of chrysanthemums and ornamental flowers. The chrysanthemum clusters are not beautiful, with few buds and few flowers. Similarly, orchid gardeners are also sparse and business is not bustling.
