Many tour guides in Phu Quoc City ( Kien Giang ) said that on the occasion of the Lunar New Year, most international tourist groups coming to the pearl island visited Truc Lam Zen Monastery and Ho Quoc Pagoda.

On the morning of February 3, at Truc Lam Zen Monastery, Ho Quoc Pagoda (located in Duong To Commune, Phu Quoc City), foreign visitors began arriving at 9 a.m. The later the visit, the more crowded it became.

There are two types of foreign visitors to Phu Quoc: small groups often rent motorbikes to visit on their own, and large groups visit by car through travel agencies.

Sharing with us, Mr. Dung, a freelance tour guide, said that during the Lunar New Year, he had to work at full capacity. On the morning of February 3, he led a group of 27 foreign tourists, mainly from Korea and China.

"At noon the same day, the group will go to Phu Quoc airport. Although I was afraid of being late compared to the tour schedule, but to please the guests, I tried to take the group to visit Ho Quoc Pagoda. This is also the last stop before taking the group to the airport to check in," said Mr. Dung.

According to Mr. Nguyen Quoc Tuan (freelance tour guide), Phu Quoc started to be crowded with tourists from October 2024. He has been guiding continuously since then until now and almost every group he leads stops by Ho Quoc Pagoda.

For all groups of visitors, especially international visitors, before entering the temple to visit or worship, Mr. Tuan quickly guides them from clothing to etiquette, speaking softly... "For groups with Buddhists, they do a very good job in the sacred place; for groups without religion, they just come to take pictures, check-in and then leave," Mr. Tuan added.

Mr. Nguyen Vu Khac Huy, General Director of Vina Phu Quoc Tourism Company Limited, said that during the Tet holiday, Phu Quoc welcomed many international visitors. That is a good thing for tourism on the pearl island. However, the international visitors to Phu Quoc recently are mainly from Korea and China. Therefore, Phu Quoc is also facing difficulties when the current tour guide force's foreign language expertise is mainly English.
