The first unit in Vietnam to receive BIM Certification from the British Standards Institution

BS ISO 19650 is an international standard that provides a common framework for information management through the use of building information modeling (BIM) for construction and infrastructure projects. This standard has been selected by the Vietnamese Ministry of Construction as the basis for compiling the General Guidelines for the application of BIM building information modeling (Decision No. 348/QD-BXD dated April 2, 2021) and the Detailed Guidelines for the application of BIM building information modeling for civil works and urban infrastructure (Decision No. 347/QD-BXD dated April 2, 2021).

Mr. Nguyen Viet Dung, Permanent Deputy General Director of Portcoast, shared: Achieving this result is thanks to the continuous learning and working of all members of Portcoast and the support from leaders at all levels, partners, especially from Autodesk, Esri, leading corporations in BIM-GIS and BSI. In particular, BSI has organized training courses and granted BIM Professional certificates to 25 Portcoast engineers. And today, Portcoast is proud to be the first and only unit in Vietnam to receive BIM Certification according to BS ISO 19650-2:2018. Receiving this certification from BSI not only contributes to enhancing Portcoast's reputation in the international market but also affirms the quality and professionalism in all activities of the company.

In Vietnam, the application of BIM is mandatory according to the roadmap stipulated in Decision No. 258/2023 of the Prime Minister , in which phase 1 from 2023 will apply BIM mandatory for grade I and special grade works of new construction investment projects using public investment capital, foreign capital invested in public investment and investment under the public-private partnership method, starting to carry out project preparation work. Phase 2 from 2025 will apply BIM mandatory for grade II and above works of new construction investment projects using public investment capital, foreign capital invested in public investment and investment under the public-private partnership method, starting to carry out project preparation work.

BSI is a Royal Charter based in the UK, headquartered in London. Founded in 1901, BSI was the world’s first national standards body and over a century later is recognised globally. BSI is responsible for the origin of many of the world’s most popular management system standards and publishes over 2,500 standards each year, covering areas such as energy, nanotechnology, aviation, construction, power, engineering, finance, healthcare , information technology and retail.
