Data is key, data center is the “backbone”

Việt NamViệt Nam16/12/2024

In the digital age, units, organizations and businesses are increasingly aware of the importance of data management and protection. In which, data is the key factor and the data center is considered the "backbone" supporting the digital transformation process, providing a platform for effective data storage, processing, analysis and sharing.

Data is key, data center is the “backbone”

Therefore, the development of data centers is a very important factor in helping units, agencies and businesses ensure stable and safe operations.

According to a report at the Data Center & Cloud Infrastructure Summit, the total market capacity of the Data Center sector in 2024 will reach about 321 billion USD, with an average growth rate of 7.3%.

Information from Structure Research also shows that the data center colocation service market in the Asia- Pacific region is booming with a growth rate of 13.3%/5 years, expected to reach 19,069MW of critical information technology capacity by 2028, equivalent to nearly twice that of 2023.

In its Asia- Pacific market report, Savills assessed Vietnam's data center industry as one of the fastest growing markets in the world.

Accordingly, it is forecasted that in Vietnam, in the coming years, there will be an explosion in data centers with a scale of 1.27 billion USD by 2030, with an average compound growth rate of 10.8%.

In just the past 2 years, many data centers in Vietnam have been established. In October 2023, VNPT opened the largest data center in Vietnam at that time. This is the 8th center of VNPT , invested in the most modern technologies, with a total floor area of 23,000 m2, a scale of 2,000 racks, achieving Uptime Tier III certification for design, construction and installation.

In April 2024, Viettel also opened Viettel Hoa Lac Data Center with a capacity of 30MW, 60,000 servers; more than 2,400 racks; 21,000m2 of floor space.

Currently, Vietnam has about 33 data centers. Most of these centers belong to large domestic telecommunications companies such as: VNPT, Viettel IDC, FPT Telecom, CMC Telecom. Some centers have begun to have the participation of foreign enterprises such as Gaw Capital, Worldwide DC Solution (Singapore)...

An important step in the capital's digital transformation roadmap

On December 6, Hanoi also inaugurated the Capital's Main Data Center at VNPT IDC Hoa Lac. This event marks an important step in the capital's digital transformation roadmap.

The highlight of this Center is the use of private cloud computing technology, helping data systems operate flexibly, safely and cost-effectively. The security system is designed with 6 strict layers of defense, from the outside to the data storage area (Data Hall), ensuring the highest level of data security.

At the same time, the team of operating experts at the center are all well-trained and possess international certificates such as CDFOM, CDRP, CDMS, CTDC, CCNA, CCNP, ready to ensure the system operates continuously 24/7.

In particular, this Center not only serves the management work of the government but also acts as a “right-hand man” for the people and businesses. More than 300 IT applications of Hanoi have been converted to cloud computing platforms, thereby helping Hanoi people easily access online public services, from administrative registration to medical and educational applications…

This center is also responsible for ensuring the management of the entire technical infrastructure system of the City, including centralized and distributed servers at units, managing the WAN network connecting to all departments, branches, districts, towns, maintaining stable and continuous operations 24/7.

In addition, build, link, and integrate shared software and specialized software to serve information technology application programs in state agencies and serve citizens and businesses.

Data is key, data center is the “backbone”

Currently, the system processes millions of data requests from the City's IT applications every day. However, through virtualization and cloud computing technology, everything is operated smoothly, quickly and stably.

According to experts, Hanoi is a pioneer in considering data as the “lifeblood” of a modern city. And the Main Data Center will play a core role in building a smart city ecosystem. Accordingly, data from transportation, healthcare, education, and environmental systems are all connected and processed centrally. This not only helps the government manage more effectively but also supports decisions based on scientific analysis, instead of emotions.

This project is expected to turn Hanoi into a symbol of innovation and sustainability, ready to enter an era of national growth./.
