Billionaire Elon Musk has confirmed that he has no intention of buying TikTok's US business, even though President Trump previously suggested this possibility.

AFP news agency reported on February 9 that technology billionaire Elon Musk affirmed that he has no intention of acquiring TikTok's operations in the US.

"I have not made any offer to buy TikTok, nor do I have any plans to own the platform," Elon Musk said at a forum in Germany in late January. This content was just announced this weekend.

TikTok is currently facing a demand to separate from its parent company ByteDance (China), or else it will be banned from operating in the US due to concerns about national security and user data privacy.

After returning to the White House on January 20, one of the first moves of US President Donald Trump was to sign an executive order postponing the ban on TikTok for 75 days. He also asked the attorney general to temporarily suspend enforcement of the law so that the administration has time to determine the appropriate direction for this platform.

Shortly after, Mr. Trump said he was willing to let billionaire Musk - the owner of social network X, electric car company Tesla and countless other companies - buy the platform.

"I would support it if he wanted to buy it," Mr. Trump told reporters on January 21.

However, the billionaire has affirmed that he has no intention of acquiring TikTok.

“I don’t even use TikTok, so you know, I’m not familiar with it at all,” he said. “I’m not excited about buying it.”

In 2022, billionaire Musk bought social network Twitter (now X) for $44 billion, claiming he did so to "protect free speech".

However, since the takeover, human rights groups have warned that the platform has seen a rise in hate speech and misinformation.

Also at the forum in Germany, Elon Musk publicly criticized diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) initiatives that were implemented to support historically oppressed and disadvantaged communities.

"DEI is just another form of racism," Elon Musk said. "I am against all forms of racism and sexism, no matter who it is."

Meanwhile, the US administration is pushing President Donald Trump's campaign to eliminate DEI from the federal apparatus, including canceling training programs, cutting budgets and laying off hundreds of employees.

At the same forum, Mr Musk expressed strong support for the far-right Alternative for Germany (AfD) party - a highly controversial move in a country still sensitive to its Nazi past.
