2024 is the 9th year that the Kangaroo International Math Competition is held in Vietnam. This is the largest math competition in the world for high school students.

Previously, in 1991, the exam was first held in France. Every year, the exam attracts over 6 million candidates from about 100 countries. The exam questions are developed by experts who are members of the International Kangaroo Mathematics Committee and are applied worldwide.

Many parents took their children to take the exam at the Vinschool Central Park Inter-level School (Binh Thanh District) on the morning of March 17.

In Vietnam, the exam was first held in 2016, authorized by the IEG Foundation. After 8 years of being held in Vietnam, the exam has become an interesting math playground, attracting the participation of more than 200,000 candidates from more than 1,000 educational institutions nationwide.

The test is translated into Vietnamese, and candidates take the test on a bilingual English-Vietnamese test paper. The test consists of multiple-choice questions at levels from easy to difficult related to many areas of mathematical application including algebra, geometry, logical thinking, magic matrices, etc.

The representative of the organizing committee said that the contest was held to create a useful intellectual playground for students, helping them have the opportunity to exchange and share experiences with friends who have a passion for mathematics nationwide, thereby deeply integrating internationally, especially in the field of applied mathematics.

This year, Hanoi is the city with the largest number of candidates taking the exam with 14,000 candidates at 21 exam locations.

In Ho Chi Minh City alone, the exam will be held at 3 centralized exam locations: Vinschool Central Park Inter-level School, British Academy International School (Binh Thanh District), Vinschool Grand Park Primary - Secondary - High School (Thu Duc City).

In particular, in order to spread the love of mathematics and develop students' thinking, this year, IEG Foundation offers 200 free exam places to students in difficult circumstances at 2 exam locations: Thuy Huong Primary School (Chuong My, Hanoi) and Tay Dang B Primary School (Ba Vi, Hanoi).
