Domestic rice prices remain stable, purchasing power is weak
In the domestic market, the prices of raw rice and finished rice in the Mekong Delta region remained unchanged today. Raw rice OM 18 fluctuated from VND 9,600 - 9,700/kg, OM 5451 at VND 9,100 - 9,150/kg, and IR 504 remained at VND 7,600 - 7,700/kg. The prices of finished rice products also remained unchanged, with OM 380 at VND 8,800 - 9,000/kg and IR 504 at VND 9,500 - 9,700/kg.
At traditional markets, retail prices of rice varieties such as Huong Lai, Nang Nhen, Jasmine, Soc Thai... remain the same as yesterday. Nang Nhen rice currently has the highest price at 28,000 VND/kg.
Rice prices are stable, Summer-Autumn harvest is at its peak
Fresh rice prices in many localities also remained unchanged. IR 50404 was at 5,700 - 5,800 VND/kg, OM 5451 was at 5,900 - 6,000 VND/kg, Dai Thom 8 and Nang Hoa 9 fluctuated between 6,100 - 6,200 VND/kg. The rice purchasing market was slow, farmers were selling in small quantities.
The summer-autumn crop in the Mekong Delta is currently entering the peak harvest period. To date, the harvested area has reached more than 467,000 hectares, with an estimated output of about 2.88 million tons of rice, contributing to stabilizing the market supply.
By-products flat, trading quiet
Prices of by-products such as bran, rice husks and IR504 fragrant rice husks remained stable compared to the weekend. Specifically, bran fluctuated from 8,000 - 9,000 VND/kg, IR504 fragrant rice husks remained at 7,000 - 7,300 VND/kg, and rice husks were around 1,000 - 1,150 VND/kg. Transactions in this segment were also quite quiet.
Export market maintains prices, fierce competition
Vietnam’s rice export prices continue to move sideways. According to the Vietnam Food Association, 5% broken rice is currently offered at $377 per ton, 25% broken rice at $357 per ton, and 100% broken rice at $317 per ton.
Meanwhile, Indian rice prices are falling sharply due to large inventories and weak demand, creating competitive pressure on the Asian market. The country’s 5% broken parboiled rice is now only $377-$382 per ton. Thailand has also seen a slight increase in prices due to domestic costs, but there are no signs of improvement in purchasing power.
