When rescued, the dolphin was stabbed in the back with a spear.

On June 28, Mr. Bui Van Dam (in Ta An Khuong commune, Dam Doi district, Ca Mau province) said that he and some people had successfully rescued a dolphin on the Ganh Hao river. During the rescue, a spear was found on the back of the dolphin. After removing the spear and treating the wound, the people released the dolphin to swim towards the sea.

Earlier, at noon on June 27, some locals unexpectedly saw a dolphin weighing about 30kg swimming on the surface of the Ganh Hao River, about 50km from the estuary. Normally, people see dolphins swimming in the sea or estuaries, but rarely inland.
