Fighting over 'holy water', unexpectedly the water leaked from the air conditioner

The incident happened at a temple in Uttar Pradesh state (India) when believers thought they were drinking precious water, but it was actually just condensed water from the air conditioner.

A tourist visiting the Banke Bihari Temple in Uttar Pradesh's Vrindavan town filmed devotees scrambling for water from an elephant-shaped spout. They mistook the water for "Charan Amrit," or holy water from the feet of Lord Krishna, the Hindu deity. However, the water was actually coming from the air conditioning system.

Believers collect water from the tap, thinking it is holy water, but in reality it is just condensation from the air conditioner.

Despite the explanations from the monks in the temple, many devotees continued to catch every drop of water. Many used cups to collect it, while others used their hands to catch it and drink. The video recording this scene has attracted more than 4 million views on social network X since November 4, Wion News reported. In the video, people walk through the narrow path and continuously catch water or stop at the tap to pray.

"We respect people's belief in deities, but it is important to inform them. This is not Charan Amrit water, it is just air-conditioned water. The real Charan Amrit will contain ingredients like tulsi and rose petals," said Dinesh Goswami, a priest at the temple, according to the Times of India .

Hepatologist Dr Cyriac Abby Philips in India saw the footage and warned that the environment in air conditioning systems is a breeding ground for many infectious diseases, including fungi, some of which are very dangerous. He added that drinking condensation from air conditioning increases the risk of Legionnaire's pneumonia. Some devotees were "shocked" when they later learned about the source of the water they drank at the Banke Bihari temple.

The Indian press said the incident also highlighted the importance of providing transparent and accurate information at religious sites to ensure the health and faith of believers.
