On February 6, Business Standard reported that officials confirmed that New Delhi currently has two warships in the Gulf of Aden and at least 10 warships in the northern and western Arabian Sea, along with surveillance aircraft.

India has investigated more than 250 ships and boats in the past two months, as Western powers focus on attacks by Iran-backed Houthi forces in Yemen.

This is India’s largest naval deployment in the region. Other countries with naval presence in the region include the United States, France and China, but officials said New Delhi’s presence is the largest.

India has not joined the US-led task force in the Red Sea and has not deployed warships to the region.

According to experts, as one of the forces ensuring regional security, the Indian Navy is increasingly demonstrating its ability to protect not only the country's interests, but also "bringing confidence to countries in the region that they (the Indian Navy) are ready and able to shoulder responsibilities in the region".

Since November 2023, the Houthis have repeatedly attacked ships in the Red Sea, part of a route that carries about 12% of the world's maritime traffic.

The force said the actions were intended to show support for Palestine in its conflict with Israel.
