Hanoi high school students nurture a greener community

Amidst the hustle and bustle of urban life, there are young people who choose to slow down to pick up scraps of paper and old glass bottles, turning them into works of art and inspiring stories.

The Cleen Project, founded by high school students in Hanoi, not only spreads the message of environmental protection, but also fosters community cohesion and inspires the belief that every small action can become a green shoot for society.

"Every action is a seed and we are persistently nurturing a greener, more loving and more connected community", that is not only the criterion but also the spirit throughout the journey of the non-profit project for society and the environment initiated by high school students in Hanoi since 2018, currently with over 12 participating schools.

Sharing the reason for its establishment, Le Gia Han, class 12 Geography, Hanoi - Amsterdam High School for the Gifted, Head of the Organizing Committee of Cleen Project season 8, said: "What motivates us is the desire to turn Hanoi into a green city. From there, we are always looking for dynamic, creative members who want to contribute to the community."

For the group members, inheriting the project and continuing the success from previous seasons is a great motivation for the group to maintain the flame of enthusiasm and spread the spirit of environmental protection to more people.

During its 7 seasons of operation, the project has left its mark with a series of meaningful activities, typically material collection sessions, recycling workshops or environmental protection propaganda campaigns.

In season 7, the project successfully organized a material collection event, collecting about 350kg including 150kg of paper and 200kg of glass. These materials were creatively recycled in the spirit of "turning trash into art", notably mosaic paintings from old glass.

Le Gia Han emphasized: "The greatest significance of the project lies not only in its positive impact on the environment or its useful extracurricular activities, but also in creating a loving and united community. Each participating member deserves to be recognized and be proud of their own contributions."

This humane perspective not only helps the project maintain its sustainability, but also creates a safe, warm environment for young people to develop freely. However, the journey to build a community project has never been easy.

According to Gia Han, the biggest difficulty is not in calling on young people to participate, but in maintaining and transforming that enthusiasm into practical action.

Entering season 8, the group not only focuses on the environment but also promotes community activities: Collection event in September 2025, workshop opening in November 2025, fundraising call in January 2026 and a volunteer activity combined with teaching in February 2026.

Compared to previous seasons, the number of events has doubled, which means more work and more pressure.

Gia Han and her colleagues believe that this is an opportunity for them to contribute more, challenge themselves and spread positive values to the community.

"I hope that when you look back, you will feel proud of having become useful citizens, making positive contributions to society. If there are times when you feel like giving up, remember that each of our actions is a seed that will sprout, bloom, and contribute to creating a greener and more loving community."
