The workshop was attended by the Ministry of Education and Training , Departments of Education and Training of 8 provinces and cities participating in the project "Integrating learning through play in primary education in Vietnam", representatives of non-governmental organizations in the field of education and pedagogical universities across the country.

Through the workshop, VVOB hopes to spread student autonomy and promote innovative pedagogical practices from the classroom to the management level to build a proactive, creative and comprehensive learning environment.

It is known that, in order to identify and narrow the gaps in awareness and practice of promoting student autonomy, VVOB in Vietnam has developed the document "Promoting student autonomy: Pedagogical practices to develop autonomy according to the 2018 General Education Program".

The document analyzes different understandings of the concept of autonomy and provides specific recommendations for integrating autonomy into teaching and learning activities. At the same time, it introduces pedagogical practices that help students practice and promote autonomy in learning, thereby improving their adaptability in the context of an ever-changing world .

According to Mr. Nguyen Bao Chau, Project Coordinator, this document is also a practical tool for teachers, school leaders and lecturers to apply directly to teaching and learning activities. This is a necessary step to bring autonomy into the classroom.

“Students also need to know how to set goals, evaluate progress, cooperate with classmates and adjust their learning methods to suit themselves,” said Mr. Chau.

During the workshop, experts presented sets of recommendations to create a better supportive environment, promote and nurture students' autonomy as a core competency.

These groups of recommendations include: Strengthening the role of school leaders in promoting autonomy; Improving teachers' capacity in promoting student autonomy; Promoting family and community involvement in supporting the development of student autonomy; Students actively participating in activities demonstrating autonomy; Strengthening the role of teacher training institutions in training, fostering, and researching autonomy.

VVOB is a non-profit organization for development cooperation and technical assistance, established in 1982 in Belgium, operating in Vietnam since 1992 in the field of education with the motto "education for development". Thereby, supporting the improvement of quality and effectiveness of education in a sustainable manner in developing countries.
