Jota - the hero of important goals

Liverpool fans will surely remember the moment Jota scored against Ipswich Town in August 2024. That was the first goal in the 'Reds' journey to the Premier League title last season.

In the 57th minute of the Merseyside derby, Diogo Jota broke free to receive the ball from Luis Diaz. In front of him were 3 Everton defenders, but the Portuguese striker still "danced" very skillfully, dribbling past 2 players before shooting into the opponent's net.

That goal came in round 30 of the Premier League this season, helping Liverpool move one step closer to the championship. A decisive moment, and very... Jota.

Until now, Liverpool fans probably still cannot believe that this was Jota's last goal for the home team, in his career, and in his ill-fated life.

Over five full seasons, Jota scored 65 goals in 182 appearances for Liverpool. Combined with previous spells at Pacos, Porto, Atletico and Wolverhampton, Jota has scored 133 club goals in 395 appearances.

Jota has also scored 14 goals in 49 appearances for Portugal. He has scored 147 goals in his career.

That number is not too big, but Liverpool and Portugal fans know better than anyone. The number of goals is not enough to speak of Jota's talent, importance and charm.

The goal against Everton is a clear example. Jota scored to help Liverpool win by a minimal margin in an extremely difficult match, and also at a very sensitive time. 4 rounds later, Liverpool officially won the championship.

That title triumph was sparked by the opening goal in the opening game of the season - a win over Ipswich Town - and Jota was among those to cap it off on a high note.

Furthermore, Jota has always played the role of hero moment at Liverpool.

Jota scored on his debut against Arsenal in 2020. In November of that year, Jota scored a hat-trick against Atalanta, joining the list of fastest hat-trick heroes (since joining the team).

In January this year, Jota set the record for "fastest goal from the bench" - with a goal against Nottingham Forest, bringing a valuable point for Liverpool.

Not long before, Jota scored to help Liverpool draw 2-2 with Fulham in a 10 vs 11 game. And before that, he scored to help Liverpool beat Crystal Palace with a minimal score.

Jota has also scored many important goals for Portugal, such as when he scored two goals to help Portugal draw 2-2 with Serbia in the 2021 World Cup qualifiers.

That's Jota, who doesn't score many goals, but when he does, he brings moments of brilliance in difficult times.

And that is also a little comfort for Liverpool fans, every time they remember Jota in the years to come.
