16 Olympic teams from China, India, Myanmar, Iran, Saudi Arabia, Uzbekistan, Hong Kong (China), Japan, Palestine, Korea, Bahrain, Thailand, North Korea, Kyrgyzstan and Indonesia won the right to continue after the group stage of men's football at the 19th ASIAD.

Men's football has 23 teams participating, with 5 groups of 4 teams and 1 group of 3 teams. The top 2 teams in each group qualify, along with the 4 best third-placed teams. The best third-placed teams advancing include Olympic Indonesia, Olympic Thailand, Olympic Myanmar and Olympic Qatar.
The Vietnam Olympic team - the only representative from Southeast Asia to be eliminated. Coach Hoang Anh Tuan and his team finished third in Group B. However, the team only had 0 points - because the results of the match against the bottom team Mongolia were not counted - when considering the achievements with the teams in other groups.
After the group stage, the Korean Olympic team is the team with the most goals. They have scored 15 goals against their opponents. Besides, the Korean team has kept a clean sheet. Korea is considered a strong candidate for the gold medal. They are also the current ASIAD champions.
The round of 16 matches will take place on September 27 and 28. Some notable matches include the Korean Olympic team vs. the Kyrgyz Olympic team or the North Korean Olympic team vs. the Bahrain Olympic team.
Southeast Asian representatives are likely to face strong opponents in the round of 16. Thailand Olympic will face Iran Olympic. Meanwhile, Myanmar Olympic may face Japan Olympic - the team that will play Palestine Olympic in the final match of the group stage. Indonesia Olympic team will inevitably face Uzbekistan Olympic.
