Kien Giang bans catching blood cockles and clams along the coast

VnExpressVnExpress01/07/2023

From today (July 1) until the end of the year, fishing boats under 12 meters in length in Kien Giang are not allowed to exploit blood cockles, silk clams, razor clams, and mussels in coastal areas.

This is a regulation recently issued by the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Kien Giang to protect and develop aquatic resources in the province.

Accordingly, from July 1 to December 30, Kien Giang will not issue licenses to exploit the above mollusks for fishing vessels under 12 meters in length. The Department of Agricultural, Forestry and Fishery Product Quality Management will not issue certificates of origin for clams during this period.

Fishing boat owners, businesses, and bivalve mollusc collection, processing, and trading establishments are the groups affected by this new regulation. Production and trading establishments are not allowed to collect, pre-process, process, preserve, or transport clams, silk, blood cockles, razor clams, etc. during the fishing ban period.

During the patrol and control process, if any violations are detected, the local management agency will prevent and sanction administrative violations.
