Mr. Le Van Nhat (owner of a traditional pottery production facility in Nam Dieu block, Thanh Ha ward) said that before applying automation to production, he had to watch the weather to dry the products after shaping and firing them with charcoal. The process of making the products took a lot of time, and the products were easily damaged.

For the past 5 years, Mr. Nhat has boldly applied automation to production such as using electric kilns, dryers, and vacuum cleaners at a cost of about 300 million VND. Since applying automation to production, he has produced many satisfactory products. In addition, when baking with electricity, environmental pollution from charcoal smoke is limited.

Mr. Nhat added that, in parallel with applying automation to production, he also approaches digitalization to do business and bring products to the market. He has set up a website and social networks such as Zalo and Facebook to sell products.

Thanks to digital applications, his products are known to more customers and his revenue has also increased significantly. Mr. Nhat calculated that before, his income from selling products by hand was about 7 million VND, but now his income has increased to 15 million VND/month.

“When the city's functional departments oriented and brought the product into OCOP, I received a lot of support from the agencies from legal documents, capital support, digital technology approach, barcodes, stamps to trace the origin of the product. In the future, I will bring many products to the electronic market because through this, the product is promoted visually and receives a lot of interaction from customers" - Mr. Nhat shared.

Mr. Vo Duc Thi - owner of a traditional carpentry establishment in Kim Bong (Cam Kim commune, Hoi An city) said that his establishment produces handicrafts from various types of wood such as dó bầu, mit, and sen to create products such as statues, paintings, and tablets to sell to tourists.

Handcrafted products are more expensive because of the meticulousness in each stage. His facility makes about 10 products per month, depending on the size of each different product.

In recent years, he has applied CNC automation to production, producing products that are not only beautiful in design but also of high quality. The production time is faster than manual, and the selling price on the market is also significantly reduced.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Xuan Vui - Deputy Head of Hoi An City Economic Department informed that the unit regularly consults and guides rural industry establishments in general and traditional craft establishments and villages in particular in perfecting and developing products (packaging designs, trademark registration, basic standards, etc.).

In 2024, 2 Thanh Ha traditional pottery production facilities and 1 Kim Bong sedge mat production facility will participate and be certified as 3-star OCOP from the OCOP program. “From the industrial promotion program, support will be given to building brand identity and electronic marketing in promoting the consumption of typical rural industrial products.
