On July 2, representatives of eight parties in the political coalition in Thailand met at the headquarters of the Forward Party (MFP). After the meeting, MFP Chairman Pita Limjaroenrat said that the parties discussed the position of Speaker of the House of Representatives and the negotiations were positive. However, MFP is still waiting for a definitive answer from Pheu Thai.

The MFP has previously said it wants 42-year-old Phitsanulok Padipat Suntiphada to be the next House Speaker. For its part, the Pheu Thai Party has maintained that it should have the top seat in the legislature.

Meanwhile, Pheu Thai leader Cholnan Srikaew confirmed that on July 3, his party will discuss the contents of the recent meeting and hopes to be able to agree on a solution to this issue.

In addition, Mr. Cholnan expressed his belief that all disagreements will be resolved before the Thai House of Representatives convenes to elect the Chairman and two Vice Chairmen, scheduled to take place on July 4.

Regarding the Prime Minister's seat, Thai media on July 1 quoted an internal source from Pheu Thai saying that MFP could step aside to let Pheu Thai form a new government if Mr. Pita does not win enough votes from the Senators.

In return, Pheu Thai will support the MFP to take over the Speakership of the House of Representatives when the new House of Representatives in Thailand is officially launched and elects key positions, including the Speaker and two Vice Speakers, next week.

However, after the July 2 discussion mentioned above, the agreement between the two core parties of the coalition may have been different.
