Mai Son (Son La): Enhancing local agricultural products through linkage and technology

With its available potential, Mai Son district has proposed many solutions to build a modern, sustainable agriculture, increase people's income and bring local agricultural products to the market.

Value Chain Linkage - The Key to Stable Output

According to statistics, Mai Son currently possesses great agricultural potential with 11,500 hectares of fruit trees, including custard apple, mango, longan, and dragon fruit, yielding an estimated output of nearly 100,000 tons/year.

Notably, the district has been promoting the application of technology in production with 5,400 hectares of high-tech fruit trees and 2,700 hectares of organic production.

In addition, over 1,600 hectares of production under VietGAP standards have affirmed their commitment to food quality and safety. To date, 4 high-tech agricultural areas with a total area of 1,773 hectares (including 2 coffee areas, 1 custard apple area and 1 mango area) have been recognized by the People's Committee of Son La province, attracting the participation of 2,333 households.

To ensure stable output and increase the value of agricultural products, Mai Son district authorities have made efforts to build and develop supply chains. Currently, there are 48 safe agricultural and aquatic food supply chains operating effectively, including 4 vegetable and fruit chains; 39 fruit tree chains (mango, custard apple, longan, grapefruit, strawberry); 3 coffee and tea chains and 2 pork chains.

In particular, an additional 391.9 hectares participated in the linkage chains, bringing the total area with production and product consumption linkage contracts between enterprises, cooperatives and households to over 9,800 hectares. This figure accounts for 19.7% of the total cultivated land area of the district, showing the close connection with factories and agricultural processing facilities that are operating effectively.

Multidimensional solutions for sustainable agriculture

Recently, the People's Committee of Mai Son district also held a conference to seek practical solutions to promote sustainable agriculture. In particular, focusing on measures to restructure the agricultural sector towards modernity, sustainability and suitability to local realities.

In addition, it is necessary to build and strengthen the agricultural production chain through close cooperation between farmers, cooperatives and enterprises. At the same time, develop and manage trademarks, geographical indications, and register codes and barcodes for key agricultural products to enhance brand value and traceability.

Product promotion and introduction is one of the solutions to help bring agricultural products to consumers.

Building software to trace product origins aims to provide transparency and increase consumer confidence. Promoting and introducing products on mass media and expanding consumer markets also needs attention.

Not only that, to maximize existing advantages, Mai Son district also considers building and implementing infrastructure investment projects, forming specialized production areas for high-value agricultural products.

In addition, attracting investment and integrating capital sources from the State, credit and land policies, while supporting enterprises in technological innovation, implementing production linkages, processing and consumption of agricultural products, especially key products of the district.
