Students of Krong Klang Town Primary School actively use Vietnamese and are more confident in communication.
Improve Vietnamese language skills
On June 23, 2025, Krong Klang Town Primary School was awarded a certificate of merit by the Chairman of the People's Committee of Quang Tri province for its outstanding achievements in implementing the project "Enhancing Vietnamese language for primary school students in ethnic minority areas in the period 2016-2020, with a vision to 2025". This is a worthy recognition for the school's continuous efforts in synchronously implementing solutions to support ethnic minority students to improve their Vietnamese language skills - an important tool to help them better access the general education program.
Principal of Krong Klang Town Primary School Hoang Tuan Kiet said that for ethnic minority students, Vietnamese is not their mother tongue, so they often have difficulty in listening, speaking, reading and writing. In particular, students entering grade 1 have very limited Vietnamese. This directly affects their knowledge acquisition, communication skills and learning outcomes. Therefore, enhancing Vietnamese is not only an important task but also the responsibility of the school and the teaching staff. We have proactively developed a specific plan, suitable to the actual conditions of the school and the students for each school year.
Main activities include: Organizing training sessions to implement tasks, concretizing decisions and plans from superiors; developing teaching plans, timetables, selecting Vietnamese teaching methods suitable for ethnic minority students; enhancing vocabulary teaching and pronunciation practice, effectively applying technology and visual aids; building "Vietnamese Corners" at schools and classrooms to create a rich Vietnamese environment for students.
The school takes advantage of the available facilities at school and in the classroom to assign tasks and encourage children to communicate and interact in Vietnamese according to the topics "Our Vietnamese", "Vietnamese Speaking and Writing Club"; create the habit of using the common language in the family and community as well as encourage teachers to self-study ethnic languages to serve teaching... These activities are built in the direction of fun learning, creating opportunities for students to use Vietnamese in the most friendly and natural environment. In particular, the most successful and effective solution is to enhance Vietnamese through organizing Vietnamese language exchanges for ethnic minority students and organizing reading activities in the primary school library.
With over 29 years of experience in mountainous education, teacher Hoang Thi Nhat Thu has a good understanding of the customs, practices, and lives of ethnic minorities, and the difficulties in life and communication of Van Kieu and Pa Ko children. “Having been a homeroom teacher for many years, I have noticed that the Vietnamese language proficiency of students is very low, making it difficult to acquire knowledge. Thanks to my fluency in the ethnic language, I have been able to play the role of a bridge with students in explaining new concepts and guiding initial lessons in their mother tongue. After that, I gradually switched to using Vietnamese in communication and learning to create a rich language environment for students,” said Ms. Thu.
Thanks to the enhancement of Vietnamese language teaching in an integrated manner and the practice of integrating listening, speaking, reading and writing skills into the regular teaching process, students are exposed to Vietnamese in a more natural and lively way, are more confident in communication, and are proactive in using Vietnamese in their studies and daily activities. Their vocabulary is also significantly expanded, especially words about life. Listening, speaking, reading and writing skills in Vietnamese are improved for students in grades 1 and 2. From there, a positive and regular reading habit is formed, contributing to strengthening the friendly relationship between students and teachers in the school.
Krong Klang Town Primary School - a bright spot in improving the quality of education for ethnic minority students.
Reap many "sweet fruits"
The 2024-2025 school year marked the success of Krong Klang Town Primary School in many aspects. Thanks to that, the learning results of students clearly affirm their substance.
