Russian media reported that at 10:00 a.m. today (May 9) local time, or 2:00 p.m. the same day Hanoi time, the parade to celebrate the 79th anniversary (May 9, 1945 - May 9, 2024) of Victory Day over fascism will take place at Red Square in Moscow, Russia.

In addition, parades will be held in seven hero cities, as well as 18 cities with headquarters of military districts, fleets and combined arms troops. Other commemorative events with the participation of garrisons will be held in 314 settlements across Russia.

According to the Russian Defense Ministry , each parade held across Russia honors the courage and sacrifice of past generations. However, the parade on Red Square remains the central event.

It is known that at the parade on Red Square, Russia mobilized more than 9,000 people and 70 weapons systems and military vehicles to participate. Units participating in Russia's special military operation in Ukraine also sent representatives to the event. In particular, the parade also had the participation of the Russian Air Force's aerobatic teams, performing with Su-30 and MiG-29 fighter jets.

According to RIA Novosti news agency, the leaders of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) countries including Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, as well as Cuba, Laos and Guinea-Bissau will attend the parade. There will also be representatives of many other countries.

In addition, about 6,800 guests will be invited to attend the parade on Red Square. According to the annual tradition, at the Victory Day parade on Red Square, President Putin will give a special speech 8 minutes before the parade takes place.

The idea of holding a special Victory Parade in Moscow, with representatives of all the fronts and services that participated in the Great Patriotic War, was first raised by Soviet leader Joseph Stalin at a dinner in the Kremlin on May 15, 1945. Just a week later, the Red Army General Staff presented a plan for the Victory Day Parade and asked for two months to prepare. However, the Supreme Command gave only one month.

Victory Day, May 9, is a holiday commemorating the event when representatives of Nazi Germany signed the unconditional surrender agreement with the Allies (including the Soviet Union, the United States, Great Britain, and France) at 22:43 (Berlin time) on May 8, 1945, or 0:43 on May 9, 1945 (Moscow time).

Not only Russia, but also some other European countries celebrate Victory Day on May 8, one day earlier than Russia. The victory over fascism in Europe is considered one of the brilliant milestones in human history, leading to the end of World War II (1939-1945).
