Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said on November 15 that the Russia-Ukraine conflict would "end sooner" once Donald Trump becomes US president next year.
"There is no doubt that the war will end sooner with the policies of the group that will lead the White House. This is their approach, their promise to their citizens," Zelensky said in an interview with Ukrainian media outlet Suspilne.
"The war will end, but we don't know the exact date," Zelensky added. Zelensky said he had a "constructive conversation" with Trump in a phone call after Trump's victory in the 2024 US presidential election. "I didn't hear anything that contradicts our position," Zelensky said.
Has Ukraine changed its negotiating stance?
During the election campaign, Mr. Trump criticized the US for providing tens of millions of dollars in aid to Ukraine since Russia began its military operation in Ukraine on February 24, 2022, and he promised to resolve the conflict "within 24 hours," but did not explain how.
Speaking at his Mar-a-Lago resort in Palm Beach, Florida (USA) on November 15, President-elect Trump said "we will do our best to deal with Russia and Ukraine. [The war] must stop".

Kyiv fears that Washington's support will decline amid difficulties for the Ukrainian military on the front lines, as well as the risk that Ukraine will be forced to make territorial concessions.
The Ukraine crisis will be a key issue on the agenda of Senator Marco Rubio, the senator nominated by Mr. Trump to be US Secretary of State, according to Reuters.
In recent interviews, Rubio has said Ukraine needs to find a negotiated solution with Russia rather than focus on retaking all of the territory it controls. He was also one of 15 Republican senators who voted against a $95 billion military aid package for Ukraine passed in April.
