According to Anadolu news agency, there was a large explosion at the scene, followed by a gun battle. TUSAS is one of Turkey's leading defense and aerospace companies. The company produces KAAN - Turkey's first fighter jet, among other important projects.

On social network X, Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya described this as a terrorist attack targeting TUSAS facilities in Kahramankazan, Ankara. Mr. Yerlikaya confirmed that the two attackers, a man and a woman, were killed and the authorities are verifying their identities.

About five people were killed and 22 injured in the attack, three of whom are in critical condition.

Television footage showed a damaged gate and a nearby clash in the parking lot. Emergency services rushed to the scene.

Meanwhile, Turkish Defense Minister Yasar Guler announced that the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) - an organization considered a terrorist and banned - was behind the incident, emphasizing that Ankara "will not stop hunting until the last terrorist is eliminated".

Following the incident, the Turkish Defense Ministry confirmed that the country's military had carried out retaliatory airstrikes against more than 30 targets in northern Iraq and Syria. The ministry's announcement also confirmed that all targets were destroyed and that the operation was still ongoing, but did not provide further details.

On the same day, the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) and leaders of many countries including Russia, Germany, France, and Iran strongly condemned the attack and sent deep condolences to the Turkish government and people.

NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte said on October 23 that the military alliance will stand by its ally Turkey and said it is "closely monitoring developments."
