On August 16, the Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City held a Conference to summarize the 2023-2024 school year and deploy key directions and tasks for the 2024-2025 school year.
In the 2023-2024 school year, the city's education sector has achieved many outstanding achievements. Specifically, the Ho Chi Minh City team of excellent students ranked second in the National Excellent Student Competition, 10 places higher than the results of the 2022-2023 school year.
Notably, in the last school year, two students from Le Hong Phong High School for the Gifted won second prize in an international science and technology competition in the United States. This is the first time that students from the city have won the highest prize after 12 years of participating in this international competition.

In the recent 2024 High School Graduation Exam, Ho Chi Minh City continued to lead with the highest average English score compared to the whole country. This is the 8th consecutive year that this locality has led the English score in the National High School Graduation Exam.
Deputy Minister of Education and Training Pham Ngoc Thuong highly appreciated the results achieved by the Ho Chi Minh City education sector in the past year.
At the same time, he emphasized that with determination and perseverance, 10 years of implementing Project 5695 "Teaching and learning Math, Science and English integrating English and Vietnamese programs" in public schools in Ho Chi Minh City has promoted the city's advantages.
This is a noteworthy highlight, proving that many models, projects and programs of the city's education sector have achieved effectiveness. Thereby, it is hoped that Ho Chi Minh City will be the first locality to have schools using English as a second language, approaching the world's English level.
According to Deputy Minister of Education and Training Pham Ngoc Thuong, Ho Chi Minh City has been ahead for 10 years, with the English project 5695. In the new school year, the city's Department of Education and Training needs to summarize the above project, and will request the Department of Secondary Education (Ministry of Education and Training) to coordinate and invite provinces and cities to participate.
The purpose of learning is to gradually make English a second language. What criteria are needed, how many subjects to study and how long.
Also at the conference, Chairwoman of Ho Chi Minh City People's Council Nguyen Thi Le highly appreciated the efforts, perseverance and bold innovation of the education and training sector.

In the 2024-2025 school year, comrade Nguyen Thi Le suggested that the education sector focus on implementing key tasks to continue implementing the Plan to build a "UNESCO Global Learning City in Ho Chi Minh City for the period 2024-2030" in 2024.
Effectively implement the plan to implement the "Ho Chi Minh City Education Development Strategy from now to 2030, with a vision to 2045", building Ho Chi Minh City into a center for training high-quality human resources for the country and the Asian region.
