(NLDO) - After losing 0-1 to U23 Vietnam in the final of U23 Southeast Asia, coach Gerald Vanenburg confirmed that he will not lead U23 Indonesia at the 2025 SEA Games.

"Regarding the SEA Games, that is not my task. I was assigned to lead the team in the U23 Asian qualifiers and will try my best to win" - Coach Gerald Vanenburg shared when asked about preparations for the 2025 SEA Games and U23 Asian Cup.

In the 0-1 defeat against U23 Vietnam, U23 Indonesia, although behind, still mainly coordinated passes in the half-field, lacking the usual forward crosses.

Explaining this, coach Vanenburg admitted that his players had encountered many difficulties after falling behind. He said: "If you look at the match, that is also something I am not satisfied with. We made substitutions to improve, but the ball just lingered in the middle of the field, lacking the usual forward crosses.

Despite trying to control the game to avoid Vietnam's counter-attacks, we missed too many chances. It was not ideal, but the team tried their best."

In the post-match press conference, coach Kim Sang-sik expressed his joy after helping U23 Vietnam win the championship for the third consecutive time: "I am very happy. The players fought until the last minute, not giving up. Congratulations to the whole team and the fans. I am proud that they kept their spirits up even though most of the spectators on the field were Indonesian fans."

Midfielder Dinh Bac also shared his feelings: "I am very happy and excited. This is an important stepping stone towards future success."
