Ms. NTT (42 years old, Hanoi ) was admitted to the emergency room at Hospital E in a state of severe urinary disorder, painful urination, frequent urination, and blood in the urine. It is worth noting that Ms. T. said that she had recurrent urinary tract infections almost every month but still tried to endure and self-treat.

Directly treating the patient, Dr. Mai Van Luc - Department of Urology and Andrology, E Hospital (Hanoi) - said: "This patient is a typical case of recurrent urinary tract infections due to common mistakes that many women make."

Urine test results showed 500 bc/µL of white blood cells in urine; 200 hc/µL of red blood cells in urine; positive nitrite (NIT +), indicating urinary tract infection. Obstetric examination noted accompanying vaginitis.

Doctor Luc added that through investigation, the patient had a habit of wearing tight pants regularly.

"This is one of the risk factors that increases the temperature of the genital area, keeping it moist creates a favorable environment for bacteria to grow. In addition, female patients are also lazy to drink water. Insufficient daily water intake makes the urinary tract easily concentrated, making it easy for bacteria to stick and grow," said Dr. Luc.

In addition, patients have the habit of buying medicine for self-treatment. The first few times they have mild symptoms of painful urination, they go to the pharmacy to buy antibiotics. After a few days, when they feel better, they stop taking the medicine.

"Using the wrong medicine or not taking the right dose will not cure the disease completely, the bacteria will become resistant to the medicine, and it will recur quickly and more severely the next time," Dr. Luc warned.

According to this expert, urinary tract infections are common, especially in the summer. If not treated properly, the disease can easily recur, last for a long time, cause complications and seriously affect the quality of life.

For prevention, Dr. Luc recommends that people drink enough water every day, about 0.4l/10kg of body weight, divided evenly throughout the day. Do not drink small sips, but drink 100-200ml at a time, 2 hours apart.

In particular, do not self-diagnose or self-medicate. Many symptoms are similar but have different causes. Self-treatment can cause the disease to relapse or lead to drug resistance.

See a nephrologist immediately if you have any unusual symptoms. The doctor will perform tests, make an accurate diagnosis and prescribe the most appropriate treatment regimen.

Follow your doctor's instructions 100%. Even if you feel better, you must finish all the medication and return for follow-up visits on time to ensure that the bacteria are completely destroyed and that the condition is completely gone.

Practice proper personal hygiene, use appropriate cleaning solutions, avoid soaps or irritants, and choose loose-fitting clothing that is not too tight or stuffy.
