The Ho Chi Minh City Urban Railway Management Board (MAUR) has just sent a notice to the Department of Transport, the Department of Construction and many localities and related units about the commencement of the tree relocation package of the Metro Line 2 construction project (Ben Thanh - Tham Luong).

This project will be located on Le Lai, Truong Dinh, Pham Hong Thai, Cach Mang Thang Tam, Truong Chinh streets. These streets are in District 1, District 3, District 10, Tan Binh District, Tan Phu District.

Ho Chi Minh City will cut down 404 trees affected by the Metro Line 2 project.

Ho Chi Minh City will cut down 404 trees affected by the Metro Line 2 project.

MAUR said that underground stations of Metro Line 2 are constructed in densely populated areas. Therefore, within the station area and adjacent to the station boundary, there are many existing underground and above-ground technical infrastructure works, including green tree systems.

The relocation and felling of the tree system also serves the relocation of underground technical infrastructure, to ensure that people's lives and activities are less affected.

According to MAUR, a total of 453 trees are affected by the Metro Line 2 project. Of these, 449 trees are managed by the Ho Chi Minh City Technical Infrastructure Management Center. The remaining 4 trees are managed by District 10.

The 453 affected trees include Lagerstroemia, Prunella, Da, Dau, Gia Ty, Tamarind, Sao Den, So Monkey, Tamarind, and Lim Set. 404 trees will be cut down, the remaining 49 trees will be relocated.

MUAR said that this tree system needs to be processed in 2 phases. Specifically, phase 1 will be the relocation and reconstruction of technical infrastructure works. For some trees within the excavation area for the new relocation technical infrastructure system, they will be cut down or relocated to another location to serve the infrastructure construction.

For trees located on the existing sidewalk within the station that do not affect the construction of the technical infrastructure system, they will be temporarily retained to create shade for the route while waiting for the construction of the underground station, and there will be a protection plan during the construction process.

In phase 2, before the construction of the main station, all trees within the land acquisition boundary will be cut down or relocated. Trees not within the land acquisition boundary will have a protection plan.

Phase 1 will be implemented from April and is expected to be completed by the end of July this year.
