According to the research team of Cho Ray Hospital, the application of artificial intelligence (AI) reduces the time to analyze chest X-ray results, improving the sensitivity and specificity of detecting lesions.

The above information was shared at the Paraclinical Science Conference organized by Cho Ray Hospital on September 21, with the theme "Approaching new paraclinical technology in diagnosis and treatment".

Accordingly, in order to initially evaluate the role of artificial intelligence (AI) in analyzing chest X-ray results, the research team of Cho Ray Hospital collected image data from 22,981 chest X-rays between April 1, 2023 and March 31, 2024. The data was analyzed by an experienced radiologist as reference data.

The data were then further analyzed by two resident physicians with and without AI assistance. The results showed that the AI application significantly reduced the time to analyze the results of the upright chest X-ray, while improving the sensitivity and specificity of lesion detection.

Dr. Nguyen Tri Thuc, Deputy Minister of Health , Director of Cho Ray Hospital spoke at the conference.

Speaking at the conference, Dr. Nguyen Tri Thuc, Deputy Minister of Health, Director of Cho Ray Hospital, emphasized that, along with education and training, science and technology are identified as the top national policies and the driving force for the country's development. In the medical field, doctors are always pioneers in researching, studying, and absorbing the world's scientific and technological advances, creatively applying them to diagnosis and treatment activities to care for people's health.

With the explosion of scientific and technological advances, Vietnamese and world medicine is increasingly developing. Paraclinical medicine is also not out of the rotation of the 4.0 industrial revolution, strongly applying the achievements of artificial intelligence, internet of things (IoT) and big data.

Thanks to that, most of the biochemical, immunological and hematological tests - blood transfusion, some microbiological tests... are being automated with modern machine systems, giving very quick results. Diagnostic imaging, endoscopy, nuclear medicine are also developing rapidly.

The conference attracted many doctors and experts from all over the country.

Dr. Nguyen Tri Thuc suggested that doctors approach, grasp, and propose the implementation of advanced techniques and technologies in paraclinical medicine, in order to improve the quality of diagnosis and treatment, and fulfill the task of caring for and protecting people's health.
