North Korea ready to cooperate more closely with Russia, reaffirming its support for Moscow in the conflict with Ukraine?

On June 12, according to information from the Korean Central News Agency (KCNA), North Korean President Kim Jong Un sent his greetings to Russian President Vladimir Putin, affirming that Pyongyang wishes to promote strategic cooperation with Moscow in the coming time.

KCNA news agency reported that in a message to Mr. Putin on the occasion of “Russia Day,” leader Kim Jong Un stated that the Russia-North Korea friendship is “a valuable strategic asset” and Pyongyang will make unceasing efforts to continue developing such a relationship.

Taking place on June 12, Russia Day is celebrated to mark the adoption of the Declaration of State Sovereignty of the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics in 1990.

In his congratulatory message, Kim Jong Un expressed his readiness to work towards building closer strategic ties between North Korea and Russia.

In addition, he also declared that the North Korean people are extending “full support and solidarity” to Moscow, as the Russian people's struggle against “hostile forces seeking to undermine Russia's sovereignty and security” has entered a new decisive stage.

Through a message sent to President Putin, it seems that Chairman Kim Jong Un is reaffirming North Korea's support for Russia in the conflict with Ukraine.
