North Korea holds rally condemning US - warning of nuclear war

About 120,000 workers and students attended the rally across the capital city on Sunday, North Korea's state media KCNA reported.

Photos posted by media outlets showed a packed stadium with signs reading “the US mainland is within our range” and “America is a destroyer of peace .”

Sunday's commemoration comes amid concerns that Pyongyang may soon launch its first military spy satellite to monitor US military activities after its first test launch on May 31 ended in failure.

According to KCNA, North Korea currently holds “the most powerful weapon to punish the US” and “the avengers in this country have an indomitable will to take revenge on the enemy.”
North Korea has tested a range of weapons systems including its largest intercontinental ballistic missile, heightening tensions with South Korea and the United States, its biggest ally.

In a report by the Foreign Ministry, North Korea asserted that the US was “trying to ignite a nuclear war”, accusing the Washington administration of sending strategic assets to the region.

North and South Korea are technically still at war, as the 1950-1953 conflict ended with an armistice rather than a treaty.
