According to Reuters, China refused to disclose the amount of money spent to prepare for the 19th ASIAD.

However, the Hangzhou City government said they had to spend more than 30 billion USD (about more than 699,000 billion VND).

The budget to prepare for ASIAD 19 will be spent over 5 years to build transport infrastructure, stadiums, gymnasiums, accommodation for athletes and other facilities.

The budget for organizing the 19th Asian Games was only less than that of the 2008 Olympics. At that time, China spent more than 42.13 billion USD from 2001 to 2007 to build many new infrastructures, the most prominent of which was the Bird's Nest stadium in Beijing.

In 2010, China spent about 20 billion USD to organize the 16th ASIAD in Guangzhou.

These figures far exceed the 17th ASIAD (Incheon, South Korea) and 18th ASIAD (Jakarta & Palembang, Indonesia), which cost about 2 billion USD and 1.6 billion USD respectively.

According to the 19th Asian Games Organizing Committee, they are aiming for the most economical games possible. Of the total 56 competition venues, only 12 will be completely new.

After the 19th ASIAD, these venues will switch to serving commercial events.

The athletes' village serving the games will also be sold to the public after the sporting events are over.

There will be about 12,000 athletes from 45 countries and territories competing in 40 sports.
