(HNMO) - On the evening of June 17, U17 Vietnam had a regrettable 1-1 draw with U17 India in the opening match of Group D, the 2023 AFC U17 Championship finals.

Facing an opponent that was considered the most capable, coach Hoang Anh Tuan and his team were determined to win. However, U17 India showed that they were not an easy team to play against. After the opening whistle, the match was tense as both sides played tit for tat. In the first half, the ball mainly rolled in the midfield area as both U17 Vietnam and U17 India played cautiously. It was not until near the end of the first half that the attack increased.

In the 44th minute, Cong Phuong had a beautiful pass for Le Dinh Long Vu to run down. The number 8 player of U17 Vietnam confidently dribbled the ball past the Indian defender before decisively finishing to open the score for U17 Vietnam.

Just 1 minute later, U17 Vietnam could have doubled the gap if Huynh Trieu's corner kick had not hit the post.

In the second half, U17 India pushed up their formation to find an equalizer. The U17 Vietnam defense had to work hard to block the opponent's shots. In the 70th minute, seeing goalkeeper Bao Ngoc was a bit high, Malemngamba took a diagonal shot from a distance, sending the ball straight into the net, equalizing the score 1-1 for U17 India.

After scoring the equalizer, U17 India proactively slowed down the pace of the match, retreating to their home field to play slowly and steadily to ensure the safety of their goal. This helped U17 Vietnam control the ball more. However, Mr. Hoang Anh Tuan's team seemed stuck in breaking into the opponent's penalty area, so there were no truly memorable shots. In the end, the two teams drew 1-1.
