On November 7, Mr. Le Minh Hien, Chairman of the People's Committee of Dam Doi district ( Ca Mau province) said that the district had an initial report on the case of a 4-year-old girl suspected of being abused by her adoptive father in Tan Trung commune.

Through verification, Mr. TMĐ. (55 years old) has been living as husband and wife with Ms. LTH (52 years old) in Phu Quoc City ( Kien Giang Province) since 2010. In 2022, Mr. Đ. and his wife adopted baby TNT (now about 4 years old) from another person in Phu Quoc.

In mid-October, Mr. D. and his wife took baby T. back to Mr. D.'s hometown in Tan Trung commune to live.

Mr. D. confessed that since he adopted baby T., he has beaten the baby many times with a tree branch to discipline him.

At around 10:00 a.m. on November 5, Mr. D. drove Mrs. H. home from a medical examination and saw that baby T. had knocked over household items, so he took a plastic-handled feather duster and hit the baby many times, causing injury.

When the authorities discovered the incident, T. had scratches on both eyes, bleeding lips, swelling on the forehead and arms, and bruises on the chest and back, etc.

Working with the authorities, Mr. D. admitted that hitting his child with a broom was wrong.

Tan Trung Commune People's Committee said that the police will continue to work with relevant people to clarify Mr. D's behavior, and from there, take appropriate action according to regulations.

"Baby T. was taken to the commune's temporary shelter supported by the volunteer social team. The baby's health is temporarily stable and the authorities are carrying out the next steps," said Ms. Nhung.
