2 weeks after storm No. 3, more than 14,000 people still cannot return home

Monitoring data shows that on the morning of September 20, the water level of Bui and Tich rivers is still above alert level III (the highest flood warning level). In recent days, records show that the water level on the rivers has decreased but very slowly.

Due to the impact of heavy rain after storm No. 3, floods on the Bui and Tich rivers rose, causing many residential areas along the river to be deeply submerged. Local authorities along the rivers in Chuong My, My Duc, Quoc Oai, etc. had to evacuate and relocate tens of thousands of households.

As of the morning of September 20, about 2 weeks after storm No. 3 made landfall and caused heavy rain and flooding, about 14,700 people were still evacuated and unable to return home; mainly concentrated in districts that were still flooded such as: Chuong My (8,820 people), My Duc (3,491 people), Quoc Oai (1,063 people), Ung Hoa (437 people) ...

Pham Quang Dong, Deputy Head of the Hanoi Department of Irrigation and Natural Disaster Prevention, said that on the morning of September 20, irrigation enterprises in the city continued to operate 136 pumping stations with 459 pumping units; total flow rate of more than 1.6 million m3/hour to drain water and prevent flooding in residential areas and rice fields.

In response to the assessment that from now until September 21, there will continue to be rain in the city, the Hanoi Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention and Search and Rescue has requested localities to regularly monitor the development of rain and flood levels on rivers to promptly inform and warn people, and report according to regulations to the Standing Office for early response instructions.
