All 4 students participating in the 2025 International Biology Olympiad won medals.

On July 26, the Ministry of Education and Training received official information about the results of the Vietnam National Team participating in the International Biology Olympiad (IBO) 2025, held in the Republic of the Philippines.

Accordingly, the Vietnam National Team had 4 students competing; as a result, all 4 students won medals, including: 1 Gold Medal, 2 Silver Medals and 1 Bronze Medal.

The Gold Medal winner was Nguyen Luong Thai Duy, an 11th grade student at Hanoi - Amsterdam High School for the Gifted, Hanoi City, ranked 7th out of 298 contestants.

Winning Silver Medals are: Nguyen Huu Thanh, 12th grade student, Tran Phu High School for the Gifted, Hai Phong City; Bui Hoang Dai Duong, 12th grade student, Quoc Hoc High School for the Gifted, Hue City.

Le Hoang Kieu Anh, grade 12 student, Hanoi - Amsterdam High School for the Gifted, Hanoi City won the Bronze Medal.

With the effort to overcome many difficulties in preparation conditions, as well as in 8 days of competition at Ateneo de Manila University, Philippines, this achievement has put the Vietnamese team in the group of 10 countries with the highest total score. At the same time, it contributes to continuing the series of impressive results at the International Olympic competitions in 2025 in particular and in recent years in general - that is, high achievements in all competitions that Vietnam sent teams to participate.

The results at this year's International Biology Olympiad continue to affirm the quality of general education, as well as the right direction in discovering and nurturing gifted students and integrating training programs and evaluating excellent students according to international standards.

The 36th International Biology Olympiad will be held in the Republic of the Philippines from July 19, 2025 to July 27, 2025, with the participation of 81 delegations from 81 countries and territories (including 3 observer delegations), and 298 contestants.

IBO 2025 consists of two official exam days: a theoretical exam day with two exams, each 180 minutes long, and four laboratory exams, each 90 minutes long. In reality, due to the extra time to prepare samples and equipment, the candidates took the practical exam continuously for 12 hours, from 12:30 on July 22 to 00:30 on July 23.

The two theoretical exams have 85 questions, with topics revolving around practical global issues such as: environmental pollution, green growth, carbon neutrality, combating climate change, community disease prevention, diagnosis and treatment of some basic diseases according to the principles of precision medicine.

Four practical exam rooms include:

Biomedical: with competencies in electrocardiogram interpretation, blood and urine biochemistry tests, X-ray image interpretation, measurement and selection of antibiotics for common pathological cases;

Molecular and cellular biology: with the capacity to analyze genes, proteins, and measure the activity of molecules in cells to identify and predict the evolution of parasitic pathogens;

Ecology and systematics: requires anatomical and taxonomic skills to serve identification, monitoring, and development of sustainable fisheries and aquaculture;

Microbiology: with skills to classify and study the growth of bacteria and fungi that cause food poisoning in humans.

The International Biology Olympiad (IBO) is often considered the leading comprehensive international competition in natural sciences at high school level worldwide, requiring comprehensive knowledge of Mathematics - Physics - Chemistry - Biology - Environment, along with basic laboratory skills, ranging from molecular, organismal to ecosystem and biosphere levels.
