60 leading scientists come to Vietnam to discuss "ghost particles" neutrinos

On the morning of July 22, at the International Center for Interdisciplinary Science and Education (ICISE, Quy Nhon Nam Ward, Gia Lai Province), the Vietnam Science Association opened the International Conference on Neutrino Physics, gathering 60 leading scientists from 18 countries and territories.

The conference was attended by many world- famous professors and particle physicists, such as: Prof. Takashi Kobayashi (Director of the Proton Accelerator Research Complex, Japan), Prof. Masayuki Nakahata (University of Tokyo, Japan), Prof. Tsuyoshi Nakaya (President of the Japan Society for High Energy Physics), Prof. Amol Dighe (Tata Institute of Fundamental Research, India), Assoc. Prof. Dr. Teppei Katori (King's College London, UK), Assoc. Prof. Dr. Sanjib Kumar Agarwalla (Bhubaneswar Institute of Physics, India)...

At the conference, physicists discussed many important topics such as: neutrino oscillation and lepton mixing from different sources, "strange" neutrinos, the Dirac or Majorana nature of neutrinos, the role of neutrinos in Grand Unified Theories, cosmological data, neutrino scattering measurements with nuclei...

In addition, many interdisciplinary topics between particle physics and astronomy are also covered, such as: neutrinos from supernova explosions, sources of high-energy neutrinos in the universe, applications of neutrinos in multi-messenger astronomical observations and transient astronomical phenomena.

Notably, particle physicists will present and introduce some new applications of neutrinos, such as: geoneutrino research to survey the underground structure, tomography of the Earth, and monitoring nuclear reactor operations to serve global energy safety and security.

Speaking at the conference, Dr. Nguyen Huu Ha, Deputy Director of the Department of Science and Technology of Gia Lai province, said that the conference will open up valuable opportunities for young researchers and students in Vietnam, as well as Asian countries, to access knowledge and modern research methods in Neutrino Physics.

Through the conference, Vietnamese research institutes and neutrino physicists will gain strong confidence and support from the world particle physics community in their research on Neutrino Physics, a very new field in the country.

Human Resource Development in Neutrino Physics in Vietnam

On this occasion, the Vietnam Science Association also organized a short-term training event on Neutrino Physics titled “The 9th Vietnam School of Neutrinos” (VSON9) which will last until the end of the day. July 25, 2025.

VSON is an initiative of Vietnamese professors and doctors who have taught and researched at major universities and physics institutes in the US and Europe, with the goal of training the young generation in the field of particle and neutrino physics in Vietnam. The school receives scientific support and training from leading Japanese experts such as: Professor Tsuyoshi Nakaya, Professor Yuichi Oyama (KEK), Professor Atsumu Suzuki (Kobe University), Associate Professor - Dr. Makoto Miura (Tokyo University)...

This year’s program provides in-depth knowledge of particle physics, the standard model, physical phenomena related to neutrinos such as neutrino oscillations, solar neutrinos, astronomical neutrinos, and typical experiments in Japan. Students also practice interactive simulations, analyze data from detectors, and study cosmic rays…
