On October 13, Russian President Vladimir Putin declared that, at present, Russia and Georgia have good relations.

President Putin made the statement at a press conference on the results of his official visit to Kyrgyzstan and events at the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) Summit.

“Our relations are very good, Georgia is also very interested in cooperation with neighboring countries… within the framework of good neighborly relations,” the Russian leader said, stressing that actions by Georgia's former leadership had worsened relations between the West Asian country and South Ossetia.

The CIS summit took place in Bishkek on October 13. The Russian president arrived in the capital of Kyrgyzstan on October 12. On the same day, the Russian leader met with Kyrgyz President Sadyr Japarov and held talks with his Azerbaijani counterpart Ilham Aliyev.

On October 13, Mr. Putin met with President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon. Earlier, Director of the 4th Department for CIS countries of the Russian Foreign Ministry Denis Gonchar said that Western countries are openly putting pressure on Georgia because it is in dialogue with Russia.

The decision to resume flights to Georgia was made to “facilitate relations between the Georgian and Russian people,” Gonchar added.
