At the question and answer session on the afternoon of August 21, delegate Le Thi Thanh Lam, Deputy Head of Hau Giang Delegation, raised the issue of investment, training and remuneration for athletes and actors.

According to her, current salaries and support policies are still low, not enough to attract and retain talent. She also questioned the salary and bonus policies for athletes when they retire.

Minister Nguyen Van Hung admitted that the current treatment for athletes and artists is not high compared to the general level, and the current policies were issued 5-6 years ago and have not kept up with development.

Mr. Hung said the Ministry is proposing that the Government amend relevant regulations to improve income and enhance the lives of athletes.

Specifically, the Minister shared that the current remuneration for artists is also very low, with a fourth-class actor receiving only 40,000 VND for a performance, while a people's artist receives 200,000 VND and a meritorious artist 80,000 VND.

The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism has proposed that the Ministry of Finance update the remuneration level to reflect the attention of the Party and State, helping artists feel secure in their dedication.

According to a report by Minister Nguyen Van Hung in May, the country currently has about 22,000 athletes under local authorities and agencies such as the Ministry of National Defense and the Ministry of Public Security. However, compared to many other countries, the policy of treating sports athletes in Vietnam is still limited.

Currently, national team athletes only receive a salary of 270,000 VND/day, equivalent to 7 million VND/month, and their nutritional regimen does not meet the needs of high-intensity sports.
