Boeing and Vietnam cooperate in research to improve air traffic management capacity

On July 18, Boeing and the Vietnam Air Traffic Management Corporation (VATM) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on studying strategic initiatives to improve safety and efficiency for Vietnam's national air traffic management (ATM) system, including Long Thanh International Airport.

Under the agreement, Boeing and VATM will jointly research projects in key areas, including: Airspace management, especially supporting the operation of Long Thanh International Airport and optimizing operations throughout the Ho Chi Minh City metropolitan area.

In addition, research on advanced information systems that enable stakeholders to share information in real time seamlessly; along with next-generation air traffic technologies such as the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) aviation systems upgrade roadmap and the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) NextGen framework; and capacity building through leadership, business and technical training programs.

Mr. Nguyen Cong Long, General Director of VATM shared: "The cooperation with Boeing marks an important step forward in VATM's commitment to building a safer, smarter and more efficient air traffic management system for Vietnam. By combining VATM's operational expertise with Boeing's global experience, we believe this cooperation will bring practical improvements, supporting the growth of the national aviation industry."

"Air passenger traffic in Vietnam is expected to double over the next decade, reaching more than 75 million passengers per year. Boeing is committed to supporting Vietnam's civil aviation industry and working with VATM to provide long-term solutions to improve the safety and sustainability of the modern air traffic system," said Mike Sinnett, vice president of product strategy, product development and development programs for Boeing Commercial Airplanes.

Boeing representative assessed that Vietnam is one of the fastest growing aviation markets in the world . Optimizing airport operations and flight operations will help promote the efficiency of this strong growth momentum, which plays a key role in the long-term sustainable development of the national ATM system.
