Helmet-mounted cameras banned in Germany

Báo Giao thôngBáo Giao thông19/08/2024

In many parts of the world , motorcyclists, motorbike riders, and cyclists mount an action camera on their helmets or attach it to their handlebars, which is freely available.

Some people may bring along a drone to record aerial footage when passing through scenic areas that are not subject to a government flight ban.

However, in Germany, the regulations are quite strict when using flycams and action cameras, causing many people to give up when wanting to use these devices.

According to the German Federal Court, filming in traffic is considered video surveillance in public places, which is equivalent to collecting personal data.

This behavior can be punishable by heavy fines and even prison sentences, except for specialized recording equipment installed by the authorities.

Even if a user wishes to simply record the beautiful scenery of their trip, authorities can still detain you, confiscating the action camera for violating the privacy of random people.

However, cars with dash cams are allowed in Germany, but there are some legal restrictions.

Many Germans have wondered, what is the difference between a helmet-mounted action camera and a car dash cam?

According to the explanation, storing image files from a dash cam on a phone or laptop to make it a permanent record, can cause legal problems without a request from the authorities.

People who regularly download images from their car's dash cam to their personal computers or phones can be seen as violating the privacy of random people they meet on the street.

Using a drone in Germany requires registration with the Federal Aviation Administration and insurance. Photo: DJI.

For drones, the usage is much more complicated. Drone players must buy drone insurance and register drone operators with the authorities.

The drone will be given a registration number, as proof that it has been registered with the German Federal Aviation Administration.

It's no surprise that the vast majority of drones used in Germany are flown by professionals who actually use them as work equipment, monitored by the authorities, rather than enthusiasts who just shoot for fun to post on TikTok.
