Need to equip more water hyacinth treatment facilities on Dong Nai River

During the dry season, water hyacinth grows densely on the Vam Co Dong River, affecting the circulation and transportation of agricultural products by water. Therefore, people have requested the province to have a more effective solution to deal with water hyacinth.

According to the Department of Construction, the treatment of water hyacinth on the Vam Co Dong River and canals in districts and towns of Tay Ninh province (old) is currently assigned to Thanh Thanh Cong Agricultural Development Joint Stock Company (the winning contractor) under a 36-month contract.

The treatment unit on the Vam Co Dong River manufactures equipment for salvaging water hyacinth.

The reason why the treatment of water hyacinth on the Vam Co Dong River has not been effective is because in recent years, climate change has been quite complicated, water hyacinth grows rapidly in the dry season while the number of water hyacinth treatment facilities is limited (because the plan previously approved by the Provincial People's Committee only calculated to collect concentrated local points).

Although the winning contractor arranged for employees to work overtime to salvage water hyacinth and the machinery operated at full capacity, there were times when water hyacinth was still congested.

Mr. Huynh Cong Dinh - Director of the Factory Block of Thanh Thanh Cong Agricultural Development Joint Stock Company, said: In the dry season of 2025, there were times when water hyacinth was locally congested in some sections on the Vam Co Dong River. According to the approval of the Provincial People's Committee, the number of equipment for salvaging water hyacinth includes 3 salvage ships and 3 choppers. The number of vehicles is limited, so salvaging water hyacinth is sometimes not timely. To make salvaging water hyacinth in the dry season on the Vam Co Dong River more effective, it is necessary to invest in more equipment and the salvaging time must actually be longer and more than in the dry season.

According to the Department of Construction, in the coming time, the Department will continue to regularly work with the winning contractor to research additional treatment options, including investing in additional means and equipment to salvage water hyacinth to achieve higher efficiency, while increasing inspection of water hyacinth density on rivers and canals in communes and wards to mobilize and arrange timely treatment means, avoiding local congestion, ensuring smooth and safe navigation for water vehicles./.
