Warning of thunderstorms and heavy rain in Lao Cai province

According to information from the Lao Cai Provincial Hydrometeorological Station, in the past 24 hours, the southern areas of the province have had scattered showers and thunderstorms, locally with moderate to heavy rain, with rainfall ranging from 5 to 10 mm, and higher in some places, such as: Tan Hop commune 19.6 mm; Bao Ai commune 21.4 mm; Van Chan commune 26.6 mm; Tran Yen commune 39.8 mm.

Rain forecast for the next 24 to 48 hours is as follows:

Due to the influence of the gradually strengthening low pressure trough, combined with the wind convergence up to 5,000 m forming in the Northern region and gradually strengthening, from tonight to July 11, areas in the province will have scattered showers and thunderstorms, locally with moderate and heavy rain. Rainfall is generally from 40 - 60 mm, locally over 120 mm. During the storm, there is a possibility of tornadoes, lightning, hail and strong gusts of wind.

From the night of July 11 to the morning of July 13, areas in the province continued to have showers and thunderstorms, with some areas experiencing moderate to heavy rain. Rainfall was generally 20 - 40 mm, with some places experiencing over 60 mm.

Warning: risk level of natural disasters due to tornadoes, lightning, hail: level 1.

Thunderstorms may be accompanied by tornadoes, lightning, hail and strong winds that can break trees, damage houses, traffic works and infrastructure.

Rain reduces visibility when participating in traffic and outdoor activities.

Heavy rain in a short period of time overloads the urban drainage system, causing flooding in residential areas and traffic jams.
