Surpassing many talented candidates, Nguyen Minh Dung, born in 2014 from Lang Son, despite being paralyzed and having to move around in a wheelchair, had an excellent performance in the Finals of the 2024 National Open Piano Competition in Hanoi . He performed Sonatine 3 by Danish composer Kuhlau and won the Inspirational Candidate Award.

People's Artist Trung Hieu, a judge of the contest, shared: "The image of the child being helped up to the chair by relatives moved me. The child's playing was smooth and meticulous. That was definitely the result of very serious practice."

In addition to Nguyen Minh Dung's impressive performance, 116 contestants brought excellent performances to the final night with enthusiastic response from the audience.

After nearly 4 hours of competition, 8 contestants won 8 different groups, including: Vo Giap Phong, Nguyen Thac Hoang, Tran Thanh Mai, Nguyen Dinh Bao Khanh, Le Duc Bao Minh, Tran Ngoc Anh, Vu Anh Kiet, Vu Anh Hang Nga.

In addition to the prizes for the winning contestants, after the final round, the organizers will hold a concert for the contestants on April 6 in Hanoi.

The 2024 National Open Piano Competition (Piano Talents Festival 2024) is organized by the Vietnam Institute for Education and Cultural Development in collaboration with the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism. This is a professional piano competition for children aged 5-19. The competition will be launched in October 2023, attracting 2,000 contestants to participate in the preliminary, semi-final and final rounds.

The judges include Dr. Dao Trong Tuyen - Head of the Piano Department of the Vietnam National Academy of Music, People's Artist Pham Ngoc Khoi - Vice President of the Vietnam Music Association, Master Luong Duc Thang - Deputy Director of the Department of Grassroots Culture under the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, actor Trung Hieu and a number of lecturers from art schools. The judges said the scoring criteria are that the contestants memorize the song, have the right notes, and have sublime emotions.

Mr. Nguyen Van Tuan - head of the organizing committee - said that the competition creates a true playground for young people who have been pursuing a musical career, especially for piano. People's Artist Trung Hieu, Director of the Hanoi Drama Theater, hopes that competitions like this are a way to sow seeds and lay the foundation for future generations to develop comprehensively.
