A representative of the Ninh Cuong pontoon bridge management board connecting Nghia Hung and Truc Ninh districts ( Nam Dinh province) said that the Ninh Cuong pontoon bridge had just broken due to rising flood waters on the Ninh Co river.

Previously, on the morning of September 10, Ninh Cuong pontoon bridge stopped operating due to rapidly rising flood water and strong currents that did not ensure safe operation.

Ninh Co River is one of the major rivers in Nam Dinh province. The provincial hydrometeorological station has just informed about the emergency flood news. As of 2:30 p.m. on September 11, Ninh Co River at Truc Phuong station was 3.7m (1.1m above alert level 3). The water level at Truc Phuong station peaked at 1:30 p.m. at 3.71m (1.11m above alert level 3).

Ninh Cuong pontoon bridge is 297m long, 8.4m wide and 3.5m wide. Vehicles passing through the pontoon bridge are only allowed to have a maximum load of 10 tons and a height of less than 3.5m. About 9,000 vehicles pass through the bridge every day.

Currently, the Ninh Cuong pontoon bridge management board is handling the incident and tying the bridge more firmly.
