Unfavorable starting point
Nguyen Duy Hau (22 years old, from Hau Giang ), is a name that has been mentioned a lot after the final night of Miss Cosmo Vietnam 2025, when his design "Hoang Vu Yen" won the Carnival Costume Show competition, which honors parade costumes inspired by Vietnamese culture.
In 2021, after graduating from high school, Duy Hau cherished the dream of going to Ho Chi Minh City to study fashion design. But at that time, the Covid-19 pandemic broke out. Studying far away became impossible, and at the same time, Hau faced opposition from his family.

“Partly because of the pandemic, and partly because my parents didn’t want me to go far away at that time,” Hau shared. The young man stayed in his hometown in Hau Giang province, helping his family sell rice. Even though he had to put his dream on hold, Hau still didn’t give up his passion.

In 2022, the young man decided to pack up and go to Ho Chi Minh City to learn tailoring. From here, he boldly submitted his work to the National Costume design contest at Miss Grand Vietnam 2022 and unexpectedly entered the top 15, a result beyond expectations.
Luck continued to smile on Hau when designer Tin Thai, a famous person in the fashion industry, noticed, supported and guided her on her career path.
Enter a fashion design competition to prove to your parents
When the Carnival Costume Show competition at Miss Cosmo Vietnam 2025 was launched, Hau boldly submitted two designs: “Vu Sua Quang” and “Hoang Vu Yen”. Of these, “Hoang Vu Yen”, inspired by the image of the swallow and the bird’s nest specialty of Khanh Hoa province where the competition took place, was the design that received the most investment.

“The swallow symbolizes resilience, resilience and the desire to reach far. That is also the image I see in myself,” Hau said.
The costumes are made from materials such as sequins, imitation plastic, stones, etc., completely handmade. Although she only had a month to complete both designs, Hau devoted almost all her time to “Hoang Vu Yen”. “There were days when I only slept for 2 hours,” Hau said.

As a result, this outfit deservedly won and was honored at the final night of Miss Cosmo Vietnam 2025 on the evening of June 21 and received many compliments.
Before shining at Miss Cosmo Vietnam 2025, Hau had participated in many design competitions. From the work “Non xanh nuoc biec” which entered the top 15 at Miss Grand Vietnam 2022, to “Tam Sac Tam”, winning third prize at the same competition in 2023, then top 10 Trang Design in the framework of Miss Universe Vietnam 2024... For Hau, each milestone is a solid step in the journey of pursuing fashion.
“This achievement is my way of proving to my parents that pursuing my passion is worth it. I hope my parents will trust and support me more,” Hau emotionally shared.
After more than 3 years of working together, designer Tin Thai highly appreciates Hau's seriousness and perseverance in fashion. Despite not having received formal training, Hau has proven her ability through learning from reality and constantly striving to improve her skills through each competition. With the design "Hoang Vu Yen" at Miss Cosmo Vietnam 2025, Hau not only showed her clear maturity but also demonstrated the qualities of a promising young designer.
“I have never claimed to be Hau’s teacher, I am just the one who fuels his passion. Hau is a rough but bright stone and will become brighter as he continues to maintain his heart and dedication to his profession,” Tin Thai shared.
